Develop C3103 error: what it means
C3103 is a fusing unit temperature fault: the part that bonds toner to the paper is not heating correctly.
What C3103 means
The fusing unit heats up to melt toner onto the page. C3103 is one of a group of codes raised when the fusing temperature is not behaving as it should, for example not reaching temperature, heating too slowly, or reading abnormally. The machine locks printing to protect itself.
Applies to: Develop ineo and Konica Minolta bizhub colour machines. The exact wording of a code can differ between models.
Common causes
- A failing heater or temperature sensor in the fusing unit
- A worn fusing unit nearing end of life
- A loose or damaged connection to the fusing unit
- A power supply problem
What you can safely try
- Switch the machine off and leave it for at least 30 minutes so the fusing unit can cool.
- Check the machine is plugged directly into a wall socket and not a worn extension lead.
- Switch back on. If the code returns, do not try again.
Don't open the machine or touch the fusing unit. It gets very hot and has live parts.
When to call an engineer
If C3103 returns, stop and call an engineer. The fusing unit is very hot and has live parts, and repeated restarts can make the fault worse. The fix is normally a replacement fusing unit part.
Stop being the person who deals with fault codes
On a CBE lease we can keep an eye on your machine remotely, so we often know about a fault before you do, and an engineer can be with you fast. You also get a 3-hour engineer response. Already in a contract? We can buy you out.
Remote monitoring only picks up some error codes, not all of them, so we can't promise to spot every fault before you do. Ask us which ones apply to your machine.
Frequently asked questions
Is a C3103 error dangerous?
The machine shuts itself down to stay safe, but the fusing unit gets very hot and carries mains power, so never open the machine or touch it yourself.
Can I keep using the machine with a C3103 error?
Usually not. The machine normally locks out printing until the fault is cleared. Try the safe checks on this page once; if C3103 returns, stop and call an engineer rather than forcing it.
